Your Words and Thoughts Matter

Today I began an experiment. I planted two hemp plants in two different pots. One seedling will get tons of love. I put a sign on it that says, “Tell me that I am beautiful and that I will grow up to be a big and healthy hemp plant.” On the other, I said, “Tell me I am butt-ugly and I won't amount to anything.”

The purpose of this? I am doing an experiment called, “The Superhero Principle” from the book E-Squared, by Pam Grout. The theory is that your thoughts and consciousness impact matter.

Ms. Grout discusses an experiment by Japanese scientist, Dr. Masaru Emoto, who spent 15 years researching the effects of human speech, thoughts, and emotions on physical matter. Using more than 10,000 samples of water (yes water!), Emoto and his team spoke to, played music for and asked monks to recite prayers over the water. The samples were then frozen, and the resulting ice crystals were examined under a microscope.

She reminds us that water is everywhere – we, humans are made up of 70% water, just as our planet Earth is. So, if words impact water on it's own, it makes sense that they will also impact more complex systems made up of water – such as human beings.

What Dr. Emoto found out is when the water was treated “kindly”, by saying words, such as “I love you” and “thank you”, the resulting water crystals became clear and beautifully formed. But when Emoto and his team treated the water unkindly, shouting comments such as, “I hate you!” or “You idiot!”, the crystals formed dark, ugly holes.

In one photo, he shows a sample from the dam at Fujiwara Lake, starting as a nasty, dark blob, change after a priest prays over it for only one hour. It was completely transformed! The ugly crystal blob, turned into a clear, bright-white hexagonal crystal within a crystal.

Your words, thoughts and kindness makes a difference to others, right down to their core. We impact each other in ways in which we have no actual realization. Next time you tell a child that you love them, you tell a friend that you are happy to hear from them, or you pray for your family member – it matters. What you think or say about matter matters.

Now, let's see what happens with my experiment.
