Looking in my closet as a long-time vegetarian, I had a sad realization. I am a cave-woman. I have leather boots and shoes, a down comforter, wool coat, angora sweater, leather purses, even some leather hats... and that's just the beginning. What is wrong with this picture, you might say? This situation made me ask myself some very tough questions like, how many animals had to die or live in cruelty in order to have my closet filled? Was it really worth the life of a cow to have that red leather jacket drape my shoulders? I won't put a dead animal on my plate, but I will on my body? Feels and smells like a contradiction to me. Makes you think, doesn't it?
Luckily, we now have choices - more choices than ever. Luckily there were people who made these considerations long before I did, and they created some phenomenal clothing lines as a result. Today, I will showcase a few gems, my favorites in the vegan fashion industry.
One thing to keep in mind, I am not clearing out my closet - as that would be wasteful. However, I am considering these phenomenal choices for future fashion choices that make me feel less prehistoric and more conscience of how my choices have an impact on my fellow planet dwellers.
