So, how do you find your purpose?
So, how do you find your purpose?

Finding your purpose or rather the many purposes you will encounter in your life.

For some it comes easily, for others not so. Whether you find it early or later on what matters is you finding that sometimes elusive purpose. Perhaps, sometimes we try too hard, just like we try too hard to find happiness. Maybe you've already found it but you're in denial, or too busy too acknowledge it.

I'm often asked in interviews what made me want to be an author. I didn't pursue writing, I just can't remember a time I didn't write. You know, the old cliché, 'born with a pen in my hand'?

Well not quite, even if I've been making up stories in my head since like always.

Finding your purpose through writing is a gift. How many of us have escaped unhappy childhoods or other traumatic events by reading a good story? Reading saved me and later on writing rescued me from the brink. Writing has helped me expressing all the pain, grief and even anger lodged deep down inside of me.

And that first time, and all the times afterwards, someone commented and thanked me for providing that escape...Priceless! To know that I might have provided the same haven, even for the time it took to read one of my novels, is a very special and humbling feeling.

My latest novels have had a strong theme of being lost and finding yourself, something I've experienced more than once. You can always try again, pick yourself up and carry on. And sometimes I will rant in the articles I write, I might not be able to go and demonstrate and protest, but I can use my voice as a writer to provoke some reaction or at the very least express my opinions. We all have a conscience, mine often comes out through writing.
